Till know we have brief introduction to SAP HANA, its characteristics, architecture, tasks to be done by HANA Consultant and also about Data Modeling and Data Provisioning. In this blog we are going to have glance at the platform where actually we have to work in SAP HANA i.e. HANA Studio. To login in System Click on Start-> SAP HANA -> SAP HANA Studio

Click on Ok.

Provide Username and Password and login in system.

You will see the following screen.

Whenever you login in HDB i.e. HANA Database you will see the following things:

Content

Catalog

Security

Provisioning

Backup

Expand the system where you want to work, you will see all the above options there.

Content: Packages are stored in Content and all the Information Views are created in Contents only.

Catalog: It holds the Master data i.e schema.  It holds tables, triggers, views etc.                                 

Security: Security provides the facility to create User and assign Roles.

Backup: Backup is there to perform backup and monitoring tasks.

Provisioning:  Provisioning is used to provide data to end user.

SAP HANA : Brief Introduction of Data Provisioning

Data Provisioning

In general Provision means Provide. Similarly Data Provisioning means enabling a network to Provide data to its users. Data Provisioning in SAP HANA means a process of creating, preparing and enabling a system to provide data to its users. Data needs to be loaded in system before user can use the same on front end. To provide the data to user data is loaded in system using ETL processes.

Data can be provisioned either using Built-In tools or using External.

Built-In tools are:

·         Flat file

·         Smart Data Access

·         Smart data Streaming

·         Enterprise Information Management Remote data.

External tool are:

·         SAP Landscape Transformation(SLT)

·         SAP Business Objects Data Services(BODS)

·         SAP Direct Extractor Connection(DXC)

·         Sybase Replication Server

Every Data Provisioning technique has its own pros and cons. Like SLT is used when data need to be loaded in real time, BODS is used when data is not required in real time, it is used for loading data using batch processes, DXC used when data needs to be loaded into SAP Business Suite via simple connection (HTTP ) to HANA etc.
